NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IS TUESDAY AUGUST 6 The 19th annual National Night Out! What is it? A community-building block party, also called "America's Night Out Against Crime." Since passing a resolution in 1998, CenTex Chapter "...endorses and strongly encourages all its members and all the public to participate in National Night Out the first Tuesday in August of every year; take personal responsibility to lead or assist in organizing events on their blocks or in their buildings; and encourage co-workers, employees, families, and friends to do the same." Why? This non-partisan, community "bridging" event creates opportunities for millions to have fun, get to know their neighbors better and restore trust in one another and in government. For more about NNO, in Austin, contact Yolanda Buchman, APD's Community Liasion at (512) 459-1554 or nno@ci.austin.tx.us and http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/police/nno.htm. Elsewhere in Central Texas, contact local law enforcement office or see http://www.nationaltownwatch.org/nno, the website of the national sponsoring organization. See also CenTex ASPA's resolution at http://www.main.org/aspa/nno-res2.htm. If your block doesn't have a party planned yet, plan one quickly and start a tradition to have one every year. 4TH ANNUAL TEXAS ASPA CONFERENCE IS SEPTEMBER 6 The 4th Annual Texas ASPA Conference will be held at the Bush School at Texas A&M on Friday September 6, 2002.
